Although               there               doesn't               seem               to               be               as               many               attorneys               involved               in               third/minority               parties               or               running               as               independents,               there               are               still               a               few               including               Jim               Clymer               of               the               Constitution               Party               and               Nanette               Garrett               of               the               Green               Party.
This               domination               is               also               evident               at               both               the               local               and               state               levels.

Look               at               the               number               of               governors               who               are               attorneys               -               Governor               Granholm               of               Michigan,               Governor               Ed               Rendell               of               Pennsylvania,               Governor               Barbour               of               Mississippi               and               recently               elected               Governor               Deval               Patrick               of               Massachusetts.

And               at               the               local               level               many               of               our               "big               city"               mayors               are               also               law               school               graduates               -               Mayor               Kwame               Kilpatrick               of               Detroit,               Mayor               Frank               Jackson               of               Cleveland,               Mayor               Antonio               Villaraigosa               of               Los               Angeles               and               Mayor               Manny               Diaz               of               Miami.
Throughout               history               it               is               clear               that               lawyers               have               dominated               the               political               arena               even               up               to               the               highest               office               of               President               of               the               United               States.

Possibly               most               Americans               believe               that               law               school               graduates               are               strong               candidates               for               political               office               because               of               the               similarities               in               the               profession.

For               example,               lawyers               study               legislation               or               law               making               as               well               as               judicial               and               governmental               systems.

This               knowledge               can               be               and               is               very               beneficial               in               the               political               arena               as               well.

But               perhaps               the               strongest               argument               for               why               Americans               vote               so               many               former               attorneys               into               office               is               the               fact               that               attorneys               are               trained               to               be               persuasive,               compelling,               strong               debaters,               rhetorical               (especially               when               it               comes               to               writing               laws               or               legislation               that               we               "normal"               folks               can't               undertand).

Frankly               put,               it               seems               that               most               Americans               like               the               rhetoric               in               light               of               the               fact               that               lawyers               continue               to               be               elected               as               politicians.

What's               your               take               on               it?
