The               first               Citizens               Advice               Bureaux               (CAB)               opened               their               doors               to               the               public               in               September               1939,               as               an               emergency               war               service.

Over               the               years,               Citizens               Advice               Bureaux               have               developed               into               a               much-needed               community               service               across               the               UK.

Nowadays,               Citizens               Advice               Bureaux               are               registered               charities               across               the               UK,               run               by               dedicated,               trained               volunteers               to               help               meet               the               needs               of               the               public               in               a               variety               of               personal,               legal               and               financial               matters.

Supporters
               The               Citizens               Advice               Bureau               is               supported               by               HRH               The               Princess               Royal,               who               has               served               as               patron               since               1990,               trustees               and               executive               directors.

Each               Citizens               Advice               Bureau               is               a               charity,               which               means               that               it               relies               on               funds               to               continue               to               operate               and               serve               the               needs               of               the               local               community.

Members               of               the               public               are               not               under               any               obligation               to               pay               for               the               services               that               they               receive,               but               they               can               offer               to               make               a               voluntary               contribution,               if               they               so               please.
               Locations
               There               are               thousands               of               Citizens               Advice               Bureaux               in               the               UK               located               in               bureaux,               doctor's               surgeries,               hospitals,               colleges,               prisons               and               even               in               courts.

You               can               access               free,               confidential               advice               over               the               phone               or               face-to-face               regardless               of               your               age,               nationality,               ethnic               origin               or               disability.

Most               Citizens               Advice               Bureaux               offer               home               visits               and               some               also               provide               e-mail               service               to               those               in               need               of               advice.
               Services               Provided
               The               Citizens               Advice               Bureau               offers               a               wide               range               of               services,               from               advice               on               employment,               benefits,               redundancy,               to               immigration,               discrimination               and               legal               issues.

If               you               cannot               afford               a               lawyer               and               wish               to               speak               to               a               trained               Citizens               Advice               Service               volunteer               free               of               charge,               the               door               is               always               open               for               you               to               do               so.

               Online               Citizen               Advice               Bureau               Services               can               be               found               at               www.adviceguide.org.uk               offered               with               frequently               asked               questions               in               English,               Welsh,               Bengali,               Gujarati,               Punjabi,               Urdu               and               Chinese.

This               site               can               help               you               locate               information               on               a               range               of               topics,               as               well               as               factsheets               for               you               to               download.
